Overview:

The BLM Cedar City Field Office (CCFO) has 1-2 Wild Horse Technician Internship positions available for the 2022 summer (May – August) field season. The selected technician will participate as an interdisciplinary team member responsible for supporting the Field Office’s fieldwork and vegetative monitoring program for the wild horse and rangeland management programs. A person working in this position can expect to apply their education in various settings, learning on-the-ground field applications, BLM inventory and monitoring procedures, and uses of the data. The technician should expect to learn about a broad range of responsibilities, duties and issues associated with the wild horse and range management programs.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will conduct monitoring within wild horse habitat. Monitoring will include water source condition (quality, quantity and condition of range improvements), vegetation utilization and vegetative trend. Other duties may include range improvement maintenance and construction, hauling water to wild horses using gooseneck trailers and trucks (standard transmission), maintenance of wild horse corrals, assisting with wild horse trapping and feeding wild horses in corrals. The other duties will require the physical ability to lift 30-80 pounds throughout the day.

Qualifications:

Individuals with prior wildlife experience will be given preference. Anyone may apply.
